Free Camping

There are many fantastic campgrounds scattered in and around the Avoca township. The scenery and atmosphere changes with each season, so no matter how many times you visit you can always experience something new.

Lions Park Camping Area

The Avoca Lions Park Free Camping Area, is on the banks of the Avoca River in the heart of the Avoca township with an easy walking distance to the shopping strip and local hotel. Be sure to spend some money in town to help towards the upkeep of these great free camping grounds.

Located in the Park is a fantastic playground which includes swings, monkey bars, slides, toddler play area, shop front, and a large tunnel.

Beside the playground is a large gazebo with an electric barbecue, two picnic tables, and a water tap on the side. There is another picnic table located a short distance away in the camping area, surrounded by a cluster of beautiful trees.

The camping area is a large, clear, flat area between the barbecue/playground and the creek, and offers easy access for caravans. This campground is for caravans and motorhomes only. No tents permitted.

The toilet block is located by the playground and has disabled access.

Riverside Camping

How does the sound of riverside views that won’t cost you a cent sound? Free camping is permitted along the banks of the Avoca River, right in the centre of town! It’s the ideal base for exploring the Pyrenees Ranges, wineries and only a 100m walk to the town centre. It is dog friendly, accessible to RVs, camper trailers, caravans and big rigs. You must be fully self contained, no toilet facilities are available.

Pyrenees State Forest Campsites​

Pyrenees State Forest is a 15km drive from the Avoca township. Drive in, relax and enjoy campgrounds that offer car-based camping in a forest setting, where you can park your car next to or near to your tent or caravan, and you can even bring your dog! There are two campgrounds to choose from:

Avoca Waterfalls Campground

This peaceful, spacious campground is located about 15 minutes drive from Avoca. The area is very popular for bushwalking, and the beautiful (but seasonal) Avoca Falls is located an easy 0.5 km walk away.

The campsite offers several large areas of flat, clear, grassy ground. There are picnic tables, wood fire barbecues, fire pits, toilets and an information sign.

The forest surrounding the Waterfalls Campground is excellent for 4wd and trail bike riding.

Camerons Track Campground

Cameron’s Track Campground is a basic bush camp located further into the Pyrenees State Forest.

Avoca Lead Wayside Stop

The Avoca Lead Wayside Stop is a free camp located on the Pyrenees Highway, 1km from Avoca township on your way to Maryborough. This camp has some interesting history  and even has a Chinese tomb that has a clear fence around it.  The tomb of Bi Jiang, dated 1850s, was found on this site and sits alongside the site of the butcher shop run by Bi Jiang (English name Percy Kang Senior).

The campsite is suitable for self contained vehicles, plenty of space to park large vehicles and has a horse shoe entrance/exit making it easy for large vehicles to maneuver around in.

An undercover picnic table can be found here along with an information board about Adelaide Lead, describing the businesses that could be found here during 1851 to 1855 when gold was discovered.

Free Camping Avoca Pound Road Reserve

Vinoca Road Pound Reserve

Vinoca Road Pound Reserve is located along Vinoca road approximately 1km from Avoca township. This Free campground is not suitable for large vehicles but is perfect for tents.

In the past. this site was used as a school plantation which now provides shady sites for tents. It has a water tank and under cover picnic table.
