This is the Avoca Primary School. Park safely. Pause the video to take a closer look. Play to learn more.
Built in 1878 and designed by Henry Bastow, it was the second state school in Victoria built to this design. The distinctive design became a template for future Victorian schools. The steeply pitched slate roof has a large tip section with intersecting gables. For balance and symmetry, the imposing veranda shows thought for student comfort and climate conditions. Behind you is the site of the first school, Avoca National School, 1857.
