In 1918, citizens of Avoca gathered on the corner of High Street and North Street to plant the first of many elm and gum trees that would form an avenue of honour connecting with the railway station. It was intended that the avenue would not only provide shade for passengers walking to and from the town, but be an ever-present reminder of the sacrifices brave soldiers made during the Great War. Today there are only a few trees remaining. Sit and take time to contemplate and appreciate the significance of the memorial, as well as taking in the ever-present and ever-changing view of the Pyrenees in the background.
